Memories of the Queen

Loch Muick, Balmoral Estate. One of the Queen’s favourite places!

I have been to Balmoral Castle (Queen’s Holiday Home) in Royal Deeside many times with visitors from all over the world. On one occasion, in the middle of June, I had a small group of Americans for a day tour of Royal Deeside. We arrived at the Gates of Balmoral Castle, collected our tickets and took the trailer/tractor ride to the Castle. It wasn’t a particularly sunny day for summer, in fact it was drizzly and blustery! We decided to walk around the front of the Castle and I was so busy pointing things out that we nearly bumped right into the Queen and her bodyguards. I recognised her immediately dressed in her Mackintosh raincoat and brown headscarf. I whispered to my guests “that’s the Queen!”. They couldn’t believe it! It made their day. Especially as in June we don’t expect to see any Royal Family at the Castle until the end of July, early August.
